HOW IT WORKS

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Our Lexus Electrified plug-in hybrid range is made possible via a conventional petrol engine and larger battery combination. Enhancing convenience, the battery is both self-charging and rechargeable at home or on-the-go. Converting energy whilst driving to maximise power yet reduce fuel consumption, the self-charging powertrain comes into its own when the battery drops below a certain level, operating efficiently at higher speeds in hybrid mode.

PLUG-IN HYBRID FAQS

A plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) has both a conventional petrol engine and an electric motor. The battery is larger than a standard hybrid vehicle, meaning you can travel further creating no emissions in EV mode, which uses electric power alone.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles have two power sources, both a combustion petrol engine and rechargeable electric battery. When charged, they perform as electric vehicles in EV mode, later combining with the petrol engine with self-charging hybrid technology when the battery is depleted.

Yes, they do. Plug-in hybrids can be charged both at a plug-in charging point and whilst driving thanks to self-charging technology.

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are able to run solely on electric power before switching to the petrol engine, as the battery is its main source of power. Whereas hybrid vehicles use both petrol and electric power at the same time.

When a plug-in hybrid vehicle runs out of battery, it will automatically switch to using the conventional petrol engine for power.
